WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last week, Democrats for Life of America (DFLA) and Irish Pro-Life USA met with Peadar Tóibín, TD (Teachta Dála). Mr. Tóibín serves in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish Parliament.
The two groups and Mr. Tóibín discussed how the Human Right to life can be strengthened both in Ireland and in the United States.
Mr. Tóibín said of the meeting, “I am grateful for the opportunity to have met with like-minded friends in Washington D.C. Key to our political objectives is the fact that we all live under the same sky and that we are responsible for one another, no matter how small, weak or vulnerable a person is."
“It’s been clear to us from this side of the Atlantic, that Democrats for Life are imbued with a similar human rights ethos. Our efforts–on both sides of the Atlantic–to build a more just and humane society will be strengthened and advanced by this international cooperation.”
Aontú is a new All-Ireland political movement dedicated to the Human Right to Life for everyone in society, Irish Unity and Economic Justice. Aontú is a left-of-center political movement and is gaining traction in Ireland North and South.
Kristen Day, Executive Director of DFLA, said, “Peadar Tóibín TD is a courageous Whole Life advocate. Our conversation was productive and energizing. We look forward to fruitful collaboration in the future."
DFLA defends universal human rights within the Democratic Party and works to elect Whole Life Democrats. We seek to end the influence of systems of pervasive injustice, particularly the mass lethal injustice of abortion, and other human rights abuses, and to build a life-affirming culture within our party, in our communities, and in our nation.
John Aidan Byrne, Founder and Leader, Irish Pro-Life USA, said, “We stand four square with pro-life champion Peadar Tóibín in defense of the preborn and society’s most vulnerable. We are inspired to work closely together to achieve our common goals.”
Irish Pro-Life USA is a US-based grassroots movement of pro-life activists and friends of Ireland in America, promoting the universal protection and the unique dignity of all human life.
